Engagement Sessions

Where should we take them?

Each couple is unique, so you deserve unique pictures. Pick a location that is special to you. It doesn’t even have to be local. A favorite museum, park, city, college campus, your home, etc. Don’t settle for the same pictures that everyone else has! Blue Sunshine Photography will travel to your favorite location! Travel fees do not apply for Dallas, Texas and Fort Worth, Texas area photography.

What should we wear?

For the best look, choose “dressy” attire. Something you might wear to dinner or a night on the town. Men- long sleeved, button-up shirts, possibly a sports jacket/blazer, dark dress pants, and dress shoes (and dark socks!)…Women- anything you’d consider wearing when going out on the town! A dress, skirt, blouse, dress pants, heels/flats.

And you might say, why dressy? This isn’t an ordinary day…these are your ENGAGEMENT pictures! You are marrying the person of your dreams and you want these pictures to be special. Your are investing your time and money into these photos, and we want you to look back and say “WOW, we looked fabulous!” Plus, how often do you get all glammed up for photos?

But, on a side note…casual attire is ok too! Just not tooo casual if you know what I mean! Jeans work best for both, with complimentary tops.

Dark colors are good because they seem to slenderize. Stripes actually “widen” you. And if possible, try to stay away from clothing with logos & patterns. The focus should be YOU! Also, try pick complimentary colors. If one wears pink, the other shouldn’t wear orange…make sense?

Be comfortable. Pick clothes that you can move around in as we tend to do a lot of walking. If you need to bring extra shoes (for ladies wearing heels) please do so! Nothing worse than sore feet!

As far as accessories, try not to pick anything to overpowering. I love big and colorful jewelry like the next girl, but you don’t want it to be the focus of all the pictures.

Also, feel free to bring props. This could be the ring box (to recreate the proposal), an umbrella (if it is forcasted to rain), a pet (hey they’re a part of the family too), or signs -as seen in some of our engagement pictures in our GALLERY …

Hair and Makeup?

Your engagement session is a wonderful time for you to make that “trial” appointment with your stylist and/or make-up artist. This way you can get a feel of the person who will be glamorizing you for your big day. It also is a great opportunity to see if you want to work with that person for your wedding day.

All the make-up counters at the mall will do complimentary make-up, if you purchase a product. Check with Clinique, MAC, Estee Lauder, and Chanel (just my favs) to schedule an appointment and find out what the minimum purchase is. Have them make a “card” to keep on file of what they used- this way if you like what they did, they can duplicate it on your wedding day!

Also, don’t forget to bring lipstick with you to the photo session! You may need it for touch-ups!

If you need some suggestions for a makeup artist, let us know. We have some wonderful vendors we love to work with!

I tend to do close up shots of hands, especially for the engagement ring. So a manicure for both men & women is suggested! Make it a day of pampering! Book a couple’s manicure! :)
